GVCM-095-064-01VAC vacuum-compatible linear voice coil motor with internal shaft and bearing

The GVCM-095-064-01VAC Linear Servo Actuator combines high precision and high force in an easily integrated package. This linear voice coil servo actuator, also called a moving coil motor, features: Zero cogging, high speed, high acceleration/deceleration, and high precision accuracy and repeatability when operated in a closed servo loop.

The precision ground 0.1572 +/- 0.0003 in. (3.993 +/- 0.008 mm) diameter shaft guided by a linear bearing in the extended position is 2.500 in. (63.5 mm) long. It can tolerate a side load to 2 lbs. (9.0 N), and has 1.500 inches (38.1 mm) of travel with a high-force-to-size ratio of 24.4 lbs. (108.6 N) of continuous force and 77.1 lbs. (343 N) of peak force at a 10% duty cycle. The shaft has a 4-40 UNC 2B x 0.38 deep thread for backlash free connection to a load.

Compact, the GVCM-095-064-01VAC actuator is 3.750 in. (95.3 mm) in diameter and the housing is 2.500 in. (63.5 mm) long. When the shaft is extended the coil end extends beyond the housing 0.750 in. (19.05 mm) and the housing and coil ends each have two 10-32 UNF-2B threaded holes on 1.00 in. (25.4mm) bolt circles for easy installation.

Product Overview

The GVCM-095-064-01VAC is a vacuum-compatible, brushless linear voice coil motor with an integrated shaft and bearing. The self-guided moving shaft simplifies mechanical integration and provides smooth, direct-drive linear motion for equipment operating inside vacuum chambers and other controlled environments.

Performance and Vacuum-Compatible Construction

The actuator provides a 1.50 in (38.1 mm) stroke, 24.4 Lb (108.6 N) of continuous force, and 77.1 Lb (343.1 N) of intermittent force at a 10% duty cycle. Its non-commutated direct-drive construction eliminates gears, lead screws, belts, and other transmission components, providing zero mechanical backlash, no cogging, rapid acceleration and deceleration, quiet operation, and long service life. The housing outside diameter is 3.750 inch, 95.3 mm, and the housing length is 2.50 in (63.5 mm).

Applications

Semiconductor and Vacuum Processing: Wafer handling, inspection, metrology, sample positioning, and vacuum-chamber automation.
Optical and Scientific Equipment: Beam steering, focusing, scanning, alignment, spectroscopy, and research instrumentation.
Aerospace and Test Systems: Space-simulation equipment, component testing, precision actuation, and controlled-environment mechanisms.

Vacuum-System Integration

Select the motor, wiring, connectors, mounting hardware, position sensor, and controller according to the required vacuum level, cleanliness standard, temperature range, duty cycle, and allowable heat load. Thermal performance in vacuum differs from operation in air because convective cooling is reduced; continuous and intermittent operating limits must therefore be evaluated for the complete installation.

Mechanical Guidance and Closed-Loop Control

The internal shaft and bearing guide the linear motion, but the applied load should be aligned with the shaft to minimize side loading and bearing stress. For closed-loop position or velocity control, combine the motor with an appropriate external position sensor, servo controller, and current amplifier. Final accuracy and repeatability depend on the sensor, mounting, load alignment, structural stiffness, controller, and servo tuning.
