The VCDS-051-032-01-F1-01 linear voice coil stage features high speed, high acceleration/deceleration, zero backlash, smooth motion, precise resolution of 1 micron, high reliability and low cost.

These non-commutated stages are clean room friendly, quiet, and available off-the-shelf. With a 0.97 in. (24.6 mm) travel length, a continuous force rating of 6.3 lbs (28.2N) and a peak force of 20.0 lbs (89.9 N) at a 10% duty cycle, these compact voice coil stages measuring just 2.000 in. (50.8 mm) wide by 5.000 in. (127.0 mm) long by 2.875 in. (73.0 mm) high, are ideal for applications such as: Positioning, assembly, laser cutting, welding and drilling, clamping, medical diagnostics and testing, and wafer handling.

The linear voice coil stages features an optical quadrature encoder and home switch, and ball bearing linear guides. Easily accessible countersunk holes in the base allows for flexible and easy integration into new and existing applications. The 2.000 in. (50.4 mm) by 1.509 in. (38.3 mm) tables have a pattern of 8-32 UNC-2B threaded mounting holes for mounting tooling or fixtures.

Product Overview

The VCDS-051-032-01-F1-01 is a direct-drive voice coil linear stage designed for fast, precise, and repeatable positioning. It combines a non-commutated voice coil actuator, cross roller bearing guidance, quadrature optical encoder feedback, and a built-in home switch in a compact guided-stage assembly.

Performance and Construction

The stage provides a 0.97 in (24.6 mm) range of motion, 6.3 lb (28.2 N) continuous force, 20.0 lb (89.9 N) intermittent force at a 10% duty cycle, and 1 micron positioning resolution. The direct-drive architecture eliminates lead screws, belts, gears, and other transmission components, providing zero mechanical backlash, no cogging, rapid acceleration and deceleration, quiet operation, and long service life. Key electrical and mechanical values include a force constant of 1.9 lb/A (8.4 N/A), moving mass of 7.1 oz (200 g), total stage mass of 32.0 oz (908 g), and continuous power rating of 25 W. The motor electrical characteristics include 2.2 Ohm coil resistance and 0.8 mH at 1000 Hz coil inductance.

Key Features

• Direct-drive linear motion over a 0.97 in (24.6 mm) range
• 6.3 lb (28.2 N) continuous force
• 20.0 lb (89.9 N) intermittent force at a 10% duty cycle
• Cross roller bearing guidance
• Quadrature optical encoder with differential outputs and 1 micron resolution
• Built-in home switch for repeatable initialization
• Optional return-spring configuration
• Optional CBL-01 or CBL-04 interface cable

Applications

Optical and Laser Systems: Beam steering, focusing, scanning, mirror positioning, laser processing, and optical alignment.
Medical and Laboratory Equipment: Diagnostic instruments, sample handling, testing, imaging, and automated laboratory systems.
Industrial Automation and Metrology: Inspection, precision assembly, dispensing, sorting, packaging, measurement, vibration control, and research instrumentation.

Mechanical Integration and Closed-Loop Control

The payload can be attached directly to the guided moving table, eliminating transmission backlash and supporting high dynamic response. For closed-loop position or velocity control, use a compatible servo controller and current amplifier selected for the required force, speed, duty cycle, payload, and motion profile. Final positioning accuracy depends on the encoder, mechanical mounting, load, structural stiffness, controller, and servo tuning. Cable is not included; optional CBL-01 and CBL-04 cables are available.
