GVCM-025-038-01VAC vacuum-compatible linear voice coil motor with internal shaft and bearing

Product Overview

The GVCM-025-038-01VAC is a vacuum-compatible, brushless linear voice coil motor with an integrated shaft and bearing. The self-guided moving shaft simplifies mechanical integration and provides smooth, direct-drive linear motion for equipment operating inside vacuum chambers and other controlled environments.

Performance and Vacuum-Compatible Construction

The actuator provides a 0.375 in (9.5 mm) stroke, 2.5 Lb (11.0 N) of continuous force, and 7.8 Lb (34.7 N) of intermittent force at a 10% duty cycle. Its non-commutated direct-drive construction eliminates gears, lead screws, belts, and other transmission components, providing zero mechanical backlash, no cogging, rapid acceleration and deceleration, quiet operation, and long service life. The housing outside diameter is 1.000 in (25.4 mm), and the housing length is 1.500 in (38.1 mm).

Key Features

• Vacuum-compatible version for motion inside vacuum systems

• Direct drive with zero mechanical transmission backlash
• High acceleration, fast response, and smooth force control

Applications

Semiconductor and Vacuum Processing: Wafer handling, inspection, metrology, sample positioning, and vacuum-chamber automation.
Optical and Scientific Equipment: Beam steering, focusing, scanning, alignment, spectroscopy, and research instrumentation.
Aerospace and Test Systems: Space-simulation equipment, component testing, precision actuation, and controlled-environment mechanisms.

Vacuum-System Integration

Select the motor, wiring, connectors, mounting hardware, position sensor, and controller according to the required vacuum level, cleanliness standard, temperature range, duty cycle, and allowable heat load. Thermal performance in vacuum differs from operation in air because convective cooling is reduced; continuous and intermittent operating limits must therefore be evaluated for the complete installation.

Mechanical Guidance and Closed-Loop Control

The internal shaft and bearing guide the linear motion, but the applied load should be aligned with the shaft to minimize side loading and bearing stress. For closed-loop position or velocity control, combine the motor with an appropriate external position sensor, servo controller, and current amplifier. Final accuracy and repeatability depend on the sensor, mounting, load alignment, structural stiffness, controller, and servo tuning.
